The Blue Ridge Parkway is a protected two-lane highway andrnarguably America’s best cycling route. It is closed to commercial trafficrnmeaning no trucks or construction trailers. It has a speed limit of 45 miles anrnhour. With 90% of the traffic riding on only 10% of the road, we will have thernroads to ourselves most of the time. The 469-mile scenic route takes you andrnyour bike between Rockfish Gap, VA, and Cherokee, NC over the course of sixrndays of moving the cranks. The route is the longest planned road in the US,rnwith construction starting in 1935 and ending in 1987. The park was built withrnthe intent to allow visitors to be “gorged on scenery,” with “one panoramarnfollowing right on another.” The rhythm of the road for cyclists is thernever-changing landscape and variety of visual experiences.
