The trouble with landfill, is that it’s pretty ugly. When we use the word ‘pretty’ here, we mean ‘very’. So let us start again. One of the problems with landfill sites is that they are very, very ugly. There’s nothing worse than looking at a pile of rubbish. And we’re not just talking about just a small pile that comes out of your bin (trash can for our American friends). Oh, no, we’re talking about for as far as the eye can see!

Imagine what it would be like if you got up one morning, opened your curtains, and all you could see was rubbish like the picture above. Old, thrown away things that nobody wanted. That’s not a nice thought, is it? Believe you us.

Anyway, you must know by now that there’s a difference between dumping and planting. If you stick a jumper in the ground, it’s not going to sprout and produce a load of baby jumpers. No matter how many you bury. On the other hand, if you plant a seed in the ground, there’s a big chance, after a few days, you’ll end up with a green shoot shooting up from another, similar looking plant.

The difference is clear for all to see.

If you plant a plant or a plant seed, you’ll get more plants. Which is good. On the other hand, if you plant a jumper, bury it in landfill, all you get are toxins (they’re bad), something called leachate (which doesn’t sound very nice) and greenhouse gases. And we all know about Greenhouse Gases, don’t we?!

So there you have it, we’ve made our point, we’ll get off the chair now.
