Thoracic outlet syndrome

What is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS)?

rnrn

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is an umbrella termrnwhich describes the compression of blood vessels, nerves, rnarteries, and veins as they exit through the space between the collarrnbone and the first rib. This space is known as the thoracic outlet (cervicornthoraco brachial) region. Neurovascular compression, that is compression ofrnnerves and blood vessels, often causes pain, pins and needles or reducedrnsensation in the arm, shoulder and neck. If left untreated, TOS can leadrnto increased pain and decreased function of the structures involved and inrnsevere cases, blood clots can form which is extremely detrimental to health.
