Freestyle skiing Lee Yoon-seung wins dual moguls gold

Freestyle skiing mogul Lee Yoon-seung (Songgok Go) won a medal for the second straight day.

Lee defeated Huff Porter (USA) 18-17 in the men's freestyle skiing dual moguls final at the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games on Sunday at Haiwon Resort in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province.

It was the fourth gold medal for Team Korea at the Games. Earlier, Joo Jae-hee (HAN AD) was honored in the men's 1500m short track, Jae-hwan Jae-hwan (Sangji Kwanryonggo) in the men's monobob, and Lee Chae-woon (SURIGO) in the men's snowboard slopestyle.

Lee Yoon-seung won a silver medal in the dual moguls mixed team event with Yoon Shin-young (Bongpyeong Go) a day earlier. They are the first South Korean athletes to win more than one medal at Gangwon 2024.

Moguls is a freestyle skiing discipline that involves skiing down a course of berms (moguls) and then performing aerial tricks off jumps. Dual moguls are competed by two athletes running side by side.

Born in 2006, Lee Yoon-seung has been competing for her country since 2021. He showed promise in February 2022 when he finished third in the men's dual moguls at the FIS Europa Cup. At Gangwon 2024, he made it to the podium for the second consecutive day, signaling a promising future.

Women's dual moguls competitors Yoon Shin-yi and Do Doc-young (Sinsa Jung) did not qualify. Snowboarder Lee Chae-woon felt something wrong with her left ankle and did not compete in the big air qualifier. She will take care of it and then compete in the halfpipe in the main event on February 1. He will be aiming for his second medal of the Games.

Kim Hyun-gyeom (HAN AD) earned a technical score (TES) of 35.91, an artistic score (PCS) of 34.37, and one deduction for a total of 69.28 points in the men's short program at the Gangneung Ice Arena. He finished in third place behind Jacob Sanchez (76.38 points - USA) and Adam Hagara (75.06 points - Slovakia).

He made a big mistake in his first acting task. Kim fell in the middle of his triple axel after three and a half turns. He lost 4.00 GOE points for this jump alone, but he got back up and continued his performance. She landed her second jump, a triple flip-triple toe-loop combination jump, cleanly. The judges ruled a quarter landing (when the jump rotation falls short of the 90-degree level), but it wasn't bad.

Kim then performed a change foot camel spin at the highest difficulty level, level 4. His second half, which is worth 10 percent extra points, was flawless. He landed a clean triple lutz on his final jump, and performed a step sequence, a flying sit spin, and a change foot combination spin, all at the highest level of difficulty, level 4.

Kim will look to become the first South Korean male athlete to medal in the event when the free skate takes place at the same venue on Feb. 29. No South Korean male athlete has won a medal in figure skating at the Winter Youth Olympic Games, which began in 2012. In the women's singles, Yoo won at Lausanne 2020.

The Youth Olympic Games emphasize unity over competition. Teams are not ranked based on their medal tally. Instead, they post medal standings on their website during the Games.

According to the traditional medal tally, Italy is currently in first place. They have a 스포츠토토 total of 14 medals: 9 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze. Germany is in second place with 13 medals, including seven gold, three silver, and three bronze. In third place was France with 13 medals, including six gold, three silver, and four bronze.

South Korea took sixth place with 13 medals, including four gold, five silver, and four bronze.

On the 28th, South Korean figure women's singles standout Shin Jia (Young Dong-jung) will compete in the short program against Japan's next big star Shimada Mao. The pair battled it out at last year's International Ice Skating Union (ISU) Junior World Championships. Shimada won gold and Shin took silver.
