Obviously whichever hoist you choose, one of the main things to consider is the safe working load. What is the maximum weight of the loads you are likely to lift? Decide this and choose a hoist accordingly.

For example if you choose an electric hoist then power supply will need to be taken into consideration as well as running costs. For manual lifting hoists like chain blocks and lever hoists then it will be a simple matter of maintenance and inspections to keep them running right.
